What is a summer school and language camp in Berlin like?
Summer programs in Berlin usually run in two ways. The first is German-language junior camps on city campuses: German lessons in the morning, city exploring and activities in the afternoon. The second is lakeside and water-sports camps around Berlin, where language lessons are combined with paddling, swimming and outdoor activities. Homestay options exist too and cost less than camp-style accommodation. The market also has English or bilingual camps, but in Germany we offer German-language programs.
Berlin is a large city with excellent public transport: the Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island, Berlin Wall memorials, the River Spree and large parks all fit into the daily program. Educational visits on recent history give schools that teach German a real context for what is learned in class.

Berlin for school groups
Berlin is a natural city for school groups that teach German: students try the structures they learn in class in a real setting, in shops, on public transport and in museums. The public transport network is strong and punctual, which keeps the city program manageable. Points to watch: the city is big and distances can be long, so the transport plan and meeting points must be clear; summer weather is mild but sometimes hot and showery. The programs on this page are also in German language camp and language school format, so they are not a fit for groups expecting an English summer school.
For a closed group we design the program ourselves: lesson intensity, excursion days, teacher involvement and the daily flow are built around the age and German level of the group. We propose suitable camp, residence or accommodation options in the offer. Groups are formed by level testing and goals are agreed with your German department.
Which age group is it for?
Berlin programs cover ages 11-18, with a core of 14-17. German language camps suit middle and high school students; lakeside water-sports camps appeal to younger, more active groups. Programs can also be built for beginners; just share the level information at the offer stage.
Accommodation options
Accommodation types are student residence, university campus residence and homestay; lakeside camps use camp accommodation. Homestay is the most effective and most affordable option for daily German use, while camp and residence-style accommodation keeps the whole group in one place, eases supervision and costs more. The option is set out in the offer according to group age and size.
Comparing with other cities
Our other city page in Germany is Munich: Berlin is bigger and history-focused, while Munich is more orderly and close to the Alps and the Bavarian countryside. For the country overall see the Germany page.
