What is a summer school in Dublin like?
Dublin is a capital of manageable scale, spread across both banks of the River Liffey and known for Georgian architecture, large parks and a lively pub and music culture. Summer programs usually run in three ways: homestay programs with city language schools, residential programs on boarding-school campuses, and programs in school residences.
Dublin's advantage is its closeness to the coast and countryside: Dublin Bay, seaside towns such as Howth and the Wicklow mountains are a short trip from the centre and can be planned as day excursions. In the city, museums, historic buildings and large parks such as Phoenix Park fit into the daily program. Irish summers are mild and showery, so an indoor alternative should always be in the program.
A typical day
- Morning: breakfast and English lessons.
- Midday: lunch and a short break.
- Afternoon: a city visit, museum, park, sport or coastal activity.
- Evening: dinner, then relaxing with the host family or an activity at the residence or school.
- Weekend: day trips to coastal towns and nature routes.
Prices
In Dublin, price is largely set by the type of accommodation. Programs with homestay through a city language school cost around a thousand euros a week, while programs in a boarding school or school residence rise to around 1,500. Airport transfers are included in most programs. The table shows the approximate market range.

Dublin for school groups
Dublin is a strong option for school groups who want a city that feels calm and safe. It is smaller in scale than London, the centre is easy to reach by public transport, and the warmth of local people helps students find the confidence to speak English. Points to watch: with homestay, placing a large group in one area can be hard; showery weather means the program must be flexible; and because the busiest age band is 14-17, younger students are considered on request.
For a closed group we design the program ourselves: lesson intensity, excursion days, teacher involvement and the daily flow are built around the age and goals of the group. We propose suitable school, campus or residence options in the offer, and the cost difference between homestay and residential options is shown clearly there.
Which age group is it for?
Dublin programs cover ages 11-17, with a core of 14-17. Many programs focus on 14-17, with 12-13 considered on request. For high school students the chance to experience city life and use the language day to day adds the most. For younger students a boarding-school or residence set-up is usually better for supervision, in which case the age limit is confirmed per program.
Accommodation options
Three types of accommodation stand out in Dublin: homestay (with a city language school), boarding-school campus and school residence. Homestay lets students use English all day and get to know local life, and they usually travel to school by public transport. Boarding and residence options keep lessons, accommodation and activities closer together and make supervision easier, at a higher cost. Airport transfers are included in most programs. The option is set out in the offer according to group age and size.
